Weddings

There is increasing interest in non-religious wedding celebrations, which can be conducted by a trained Humanist Officiant at a hotel, National Trust Property or any other venue, which the couple find appropriate. Humanist celebrants have no authority to conduct the legal ceremony. This is usually performed earlier in a Registry Office. Many couples feel that such a brief legal ceremony is insufficient, and enjoy compiling their own unique celebration ceremony of vows, poems and music with the help of the Humanist Officiant. This provides an opportunity for family and friends to take part in the ceremony (if appropriate) and to witness the exchange of vows and rings in an elegant setting.

The Humanist Association of Northern Ireland arranges local ceremonies and their Ceremonies Co-ordinator is Myrtle Ewing tel.028 90760002.e-mail

The British Humanist Association publish a book – ‘Sharing the Future’ which gives further information, sample ceremonies etc. This can be obtained for £5 from Myrtle Ewing.

Myrtle is happy to meet interested couples to discuss their ideas and help plan their ceremony. The fee, which includes preparation, rehearsal and conducting the ceremony, is currently £300 (plus travel expenses if necessary).
